In Malawi I have been working with HIM (Harvest International Ministry). We have been doing door to door evangelism, which is not my favorite thing. But, I know God is was trying to teach me something new while my time in Malawi. However, God has been teaching me how to be bold and preach his gospel in any situation or circumstance.
On my first day of evangelizing I was terrified to preach the gospel to random people that I did not even know. As my team and I were walking up the dirt roads hundreds of kids started to follow us. It was so amazing to see so many kids infatuated by people of lighter skin. They would all scream “ozungo” (not sure if spelled right) but it means white person. It was amazing to see all of the beautiful children of Malawi. I felt like a movie star, hahahahaha…. So we kept walking and came to the first home. Then everyone is looking around who will share a story with them . Then everyone one was like “Damaris!” My heart stopped! “Wait not me” I replied. I have no idea what to talk about. Then God was “just do it and step out of your comfort zone.” I was still like no way!! But finally I gave in.
I started by asking the family if they knew about Jesus Christ and they Said “no.” “We are Muslim.” I was like “OHHH CRAP” This will even be easier then I thought (being sarcastic). But, God was just tell them your testimony. So, I went on and told them my testimony and how God loves us so much that he sent His only son to die for us to die on the cross for us. Then I told them how God saved me from the darkness. I also shared a verse in Ephesians 2 about how we are save by God’s grace and not by works. All of the five women were very receptive.
After sharing with them I invited them to invite Jesus into their heart. To my surprise they all wanted to accept Jesus into their lives. The Islamic faith can be very to reach sometimes, but with God everything is possible. This day God showed me His power and how nothing is limited to what he can do. Also how powerful His word is. Also, it taught me how being obedient to God we can do amazing things. Just let the holy spirit lead and God’s power will move.
