How I was called to the missions field??
When I first became a Christian God put it in my heart to serve others in need. He also gave me the desire and passion for the broken and forgotten. I have always been attracted to help in things that seem impossible, or to work with children that are at risk or people. I think the reason why is because it is the greatest thing to see someone or something change that was once impossible. That is when you can really see God working in peoples lives and things (like ministry’s, churches, community’s, etc…). My life thrives to see people lives transformed by the living God. It is the best gift I could ever receive. This is where it all started…
In my first year of becoming a Christian I stared orphanage trips for a local church at home. I started taking groups of 30-40 people down into Mexico each month. We would go and reach out to orphans and just show them the love of God. Mainly being the hands and feet of God. It was transforming peoples lives while changing the lives of orphans, it was AMAZING!! I served there for about 2 years until God called me to start a young adult ministry at another church that I was going with on a missions trip. So, the trips were left in the hands of a leader that was my friend and the trips are still going, praise the Lord!! I started a young adult group at a church that was very small and was going through the process of finding a new pastor. The church was dead with nothing to offer the young adults. That really drew me in that the church was not really alive. I saw the challenge and left my home church of 4,000 for a church of 40 people, where everyone was 60 years older then me. But, to tell you the truth I felt the warmth of Christ through all the elderly people more then any other church ( I love them). I have been leading this ministry for about a year and God has done amazing things.
Moving on, so I went to Guatemala with my new church in June 2008 and with 6 of the young adults. It was a life changing experience that changed my life for ever! I stayed there for 3 weeks and taught English at a Christian school and also taught them about God. The culture, the people, just everything about it was amazing!! Serving others through GOD and stepping out of my comfort zone. I fell in love with missions work. This trip helped me realize that God was calling me to missions. Doing missions work is where I was so happy in everything I did. I gave it my all no matter what even if I was sick I was still working, that is how motivated I was. I felt the power of God overflow my life. It is something that I can’t describe how great it felt. I knew the that I was called and that God has gave me all the gifts to work in the missions field.
Mainly how I was called to the World Race is a funny story. I was going to go to Guatemala for a year. But, I did not feel at peace with it. So, I prayed and prayed…until one day I was looking through YouTube videos of Guatemala and asking God if Guatemala was where he was calling me to go? I knew Guatemala was my first real missions trip that lasted over 3 weeks, but i kept asking “is this where you are calling me?” Then I found a video of Guatemala but it was from the World Race. I did not know what it was so I went to the web site and it blew my mind! Here is my answer to my prayers. Where is it that you want me to go God? This trip is going to help me figure out what God wants and where he wants me, but also doing what I love.
That is how I was called to missions!!
