Hey guys, I know I haven’t blogged in a while. Anyway, I wanted to let you know what is happening with the Race. There are some changes that have happened due to Covid-19. We can’t immediately launch overseas on September 1st, because many of the countries aren’t open to international travel yet. Therefore Adventures in Missions gave us a few options. 1.) We could do a three-month stay at their headquarters in Georgia and participate in missions and leadership training, discipleship classes, and local missions, which would last from September through December. Then we would ship out to our countries in January. 2.) The second option was to wait and launch overseas in January. 3.) The last option was to just wait and do the nine-month trip next year.
When I got this news I really didn’t know what to do. I knew that I wanted to serve and experience the whole nine months, I mean who wouldn’t? So I could just wait until next year, but something about waiting for that didn’t feel right, so I chose the first option – training and serving in Georgia this Fall and then launching overseas in January. I’m at peace about this decision because it will deepen my faith and I will learn how to tell my story more effectively. Plus I get to have fellowship and build relationships with a lot more people before I head overseas. One unknown factor is that we don’t know which countries we can go to yet. AIM is trying to keep our routes the same but they just don’t know yet. Please pray that God’s will will be done in this area.
So what else is going on in my life? I know that a lot of high school seniors around the country couldn’t attend graduation or prom. I am happy to say that we do get to have both. They are both this weekend and not gonna lie to y’all, I’m a little excited!
Now a fundraising update… Thanks to many of you, I’m currently 78% funded! Right now I am getting things ready for a huge yard sale on June 25-26. If anyone local wants to stop by, the address is 1900 Sunshine Square, Longview, TX. Thank you to everyone who has donated to my gap year! With your help, many will be reached with the gospel.
So, guys, we are still on the path that God laid out for me and I am very excited to see how God moves. Please continue to pray for me and everyone who is going! Thanks, guys!
In Christ,
Dalton Hyko
