Life here in the Dominican has been so fun and amazing. We do ministry most of the week and then we have a sabbath day, and then an adventure day which is a good balance of ministry while also exploring the culture. My favorite ministry is definitly outreach because we go out into the community and just pray over the area!
Today was the day after the hurricane so some people in the community were still shook up about the storms because some people here have family in Puerto Rico, and as many as you know Puerto Rico got hit pretty hard by the hurricane. And all throughout the night some of them were worried if their home might possibly get blown away by the heavy winds because most of these houses/shacks don’t have a very strong foundation or a well built roof. So to cheer up the people of the community we went out and gave them this sweet cornbread (Apparently in the Dominican it is like what we see as pound cake kinda) and some of them invited us into their homes and we talked and prayed over them through our squad leader Zach that is very good at speaking Spanish lol. It was an awesome experience, and one that always makes me amazed at how amazing our God is!!
Another one of my favorite things about the being here is that about 5 mins down the road there is a basketball court where all the kids play at after school. We tend to go down there a lot and just hang out with the kids, play basketball, Duck Duck goose, and whatever else we can think of to make sure they have a smile on their face! A lot of the kids have became familiar faces because they watch for us to come around or they are always outside playing on the street so they follow us to the courts. But playing with the kids is the best part of being here, it is one of my favorite things to do, so I’m glad that is only right down the road and that we can go whenever we want!
Another amazing part about being here is the food, the food is really good. We have ladies that cook for us here on hope mountain, but me and a couple of the guys have made friends with a local that cooks hot dogs and hamburgers Dominican style at his stand and they are 10/10. It’s amazing building relationships with the locals, Like today for example me and my good friend Joe walked up the street to talk to him to see if he was cooking at his stand tonight and he said he wasn’t opening his stand today but he invited us into his home and cooked me and joe hamburgers in his home and invited us to sit down and eat. That is the coolest thing to me that we are making good friends with a bunch of the locals, even though there is a bit of a language barrier we still communitcate and sometimes we are pretty much playing scharrades lol.
Last but not least Red Rock is the best soda I have ever tasted in my life. There are these little corner stores/shacks that sell chips and soda and I have fell in love with Red Rock soda, its like this cherry soda and its the best soda ever!!
God is doing big things here in the Dominican, and its hard knowing that I will be leaving this beautiful place in less than 2 weeks, but the memories will last forever! If you are keeping up with me on this journey thanks you so much, and thank you for all the support! I still have one more deadline to meet and that is about another $5,000 but with god anything is possible!!! Thank you!!
