I really wasn’t anticipating writing this but the Spirit is a-bubblin’ and He needs to gush forth!  (My fellow Racers know what I mean by that…)

So, Michael Jackson died.  If you didn’t know by now, open a newspaper or read the status of one of your 70 grieving friends.  It’s quite the big deal.  As far as society is concerned, the world must be ending or something.  When I heard the news, I too was saddened.  I, however, probably wasn’t saddened in quite the same way as, oh 98% of the people out there.  That’s what this is about.  This is the truth the media doesn’t tell you.  The truth you probably don’t want to read but need to.

I want to make a disclaimer right now though.  I by no means, am trying to disrespect Michael Jackson or downplay the fact that this child of God has passed.  I pray for his family and friends that they may feel the comfort of the Lord upon them during this difficult time.

With that being said, I need to say, I’m angry right now.  I’m angry at a nation that no longer respects and appreciates musicians, rather, idolizes them.  I’m angry at a nation where 92% of people believe in God or a universal spirit, yet we’re known for the words we sing instead of the love we show.  I’m angry at a culture that is more concerned about the ‘King of Pop’ than the ‘King of Kings.’

When the ‘King of Pop’ was officially declared dead, you may have felt time stop.  Oh wait, no you didn’t!  That’s because THE WORLD DIDN’T STOP!  I mean no disrespect, but he’s a man, just like you and me.  When the ‘King of Kings’ died, “the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.”

I don’t mean to be this Bible-thumpin’, fun-hating, Jesus freak but if that’s what it’s going to take to get the Truth out, so be it!

I’m currently reading a book by the author Shane Claiborne.  In it, he talks about a moment when someone asked for his autograph.  Instead of simply turning down the individual, this is what he wrote:

This is not an autograph, because there is nothing special about me that is not also special about you.  Never forget that you are beautiful, just like everyone else.  And never forget that you are a fool, just like everyone else.

I pray for a day we can simply return to appreciating the humanity of our fellow brothers and sisters; appreciating the talents and gifts God has bestowed upon them instead of idolizing them and revering them.  I pray for the day our nation is known for the love that we show and the peace we promote instead of the wars that we wage and the hate in our hearts.  I pray for the day we care enough about our fellow brothers and sisters to stop treating them as ‘celebrities’ and allowing them to live everyday lives, getting the help they need when they need it, the solitude and privacy they deserve, and encouraging them to seek you above all.  I pray for a day when this nation and all cultures will worship the ‘King of Kings’ instead of the ‘King of Pop,” or whoever the next idol may be.  I offer this prayer up to you, my God.  May you hear the prayers in my heart and the needs of this nation.

Do not conform
any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what
God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.
