So you may or may not remember in my post
Ode to Randolph, I mentioned that I was chosen to move on in the
AIM Photo Contest. Well, for this next round, I, along with the other participants, was asked to put together a portfolio of 20 photographs displaying our talent and ability to capture a soul, a moment, a place, and a ministry. This was exceptionally difficult for me, as I’ve lost a good portion of the pictures I felt met this criteria due to either a) my stupidity or b) external hard drive problems. Nevertheless, I sought out to shuffle through the some 20,000 pictures I do still have on my computer (or hard drives) and find something to submit. After much deliberation, I have finally submitted my photos for judging. They are from a variety of different ministries, such as home repair, home building, playing with kids, vigils, retreats, etc. and may not all be exactly what you may have in mind when you think missions or ministry. They are, however, my representation of the vast diversity of ministries out there and the numerous ways in which we all join together to form the Body. I’m not going to put them all on here, but I do want to share a few that I’ve gathered for my portfolio. To see all the portfolios (and mine once it’s up there),

I feel it’s most appropriate to start with the picture that brought me here; the one that was selected to move on.

January 2008–Bacolod City, the Philippines–Children from a local Gawad Kalinga village showcase
their dance skills in a program they worked hard to perform for us volunteers.

October 2008–Ft. Benning, Georgia–Thousands raise crosses in unity for the many lives
lost while at the vigil at the School of the Americas
June 2007–Ashville, North Carolina–A teen looks toward the horizon after a hard day of roofing.
January 2008–Bacolod City, the Philippines–Three-year old BJ shows us volunteers how it’s done,
carrying an empty bag of concrete back to be filled.
May 2007–Robbins, Tennessee–The sun is no challenge for this volunteer’s precision!
January 2009–Bacolod City, the Philippines–A little girl stares intently into my lens while awaiting her turn to be photographed
So yea, that’s 8 of the pictures. I have 20 total in my portfolio. It’ll be interesting to see where things go from here. I just praise God He’s given me the talent and ability to even make it this far. I can’t help but look in the eyes of the little girl in this last picture as I write this and smile, remembering all the moments behind these pictures; the moments no camera could ever capture. What beautiful children and how blessed I am that I was able to go work in their village. Anyway, that is really about all I have. I just wanted to share with you some of the pictures I chose. Hopefully you guys enjoy them! If not, it’s okay because they’re more than just pictures to me–they’re memories 🙂
