Everyday, 5x a day, we are reminded of how wonderful it is to worship a God of freedom. A God who doesn’t care which way we face, when, or how we call upon him. He merely wants to be in relationship with us. We are his children and anytime, anywhere, we are free to call his name and worship him because he is a God of love. He is a God who cares. He is a God who listens. Everyday we are reminded how blessed we are to have such a God.
Today is Sunday. An opportunity presented itself for us to go to church, however, due to it being our only day off, we chose to have church ourselves. We headed to the Blue Mosque, guitar in hand, and set off to have some great chill time with our Father. We didn’t go to make a spectacle. We didn’t go seeking converts. We simply went to spend time singing praise to our heavenly Father and we happened to know there were some benches outside the mosque where we could sit and enjoy his beauty while we did.
As we sat there singing praise, it didn’t take long before attention was drawn. “Coffee? Tea?” The vendors were the first to take notice. It wasn’t long after the pictures all started. I see a man tap David and Matt on the shoulder. “Excuse me. Picture?” He stands between them and holds up a peace sign-picture classic Asian tourist picture.
Our little worship service had turned into some sort of media event.
I managed to capture most of it on video (something I was intending on doing the entire time…I guess maybe I initiated the media surge?). Here is what our little church service outside the Blue Mosque looked like (only picture more interruptions by vendors and more photographers).
Thank you Lord that I am free to worship you whenever and wherever I want. Thank you that I am your child and that your love for me is not conditional or dependent on anything I do or say. I thank you Lord that the same God you are to me is the same God you are to all these people-they just don’t realize it. I pray for a continued softening of their hearts Lord. Would you awaken them to who you really are. Awaken them to your truth. You are their God, Lord. Continue to pursue them and woo them like you’ve wooed me.
