You may have read the first part of that and thought I was crazy for saying that God doesn’t love all mankind.
But think about it. It’s the truth. He doesn’t love us as a whole, as an entity. He loves us as individuals, as unique individuals created with love, worth, and purpose. And just like God created you as an individual, Jesus died for you as an individual. Had there been nobody else on this Earth, Jesus still would have died for you. Have you thought about that? Have you thanked Him for that?
How often do you stop to say thank you for the many blessings in your life? What are the blessings in your life? Do you even know? Far too many people fly through life, oblivious of life happening around them. God didn’t lavish His grace, love, and blessings upon us so that we could sit on our couches playing Snood. He continues to send us His grace so that we can live out our purpose, so that we can share those gifts with all those around us.
But is sharing our gifts and never thanking the source enough? God doesn’t need to hear our constant thanksgiving, but I ask you, how can you not want to thank Him?! Everything in life-let me repeat that-everything in life, is a gift someway, somehow. Perhaps we need to foster less selfishness and develop an attitude of gratitude.
The Buddha once said, “Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.” Perhaps if we looked at everything in life, the big picture, we’d begin to notice some of those little things we take for granted. For example, I know I am grateful for the fact that I don’t wonder where my next meal will come from. I am grateful for the fact that I have my eyesight, so I can type this and see this world around me. I am grateful for so much in my life. Do you know what you’re grateful for?
There’s a quote that gets me every time I hear it and as I close with it, I’d challenge you to reflect on the things in your life that you may be taking for granted and should be thanking our heavenly Father for.
