So this morning I’m cruising down 53, brew in my hand, jamming to some tunes when this song comes on the radio. You’ve probably heard it before. It’s by a band called Switchfoot. You know, they’re kind of popular. Anyway, I turn it up and hear Jon Foreman belt it out:
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, are you who you want to be
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose
So many times I’ve pondered these same lyrics yet something about them stops me in my tracks. I simply listened to his gentle voice:
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
This is you life, are you who you want to be
And then it hits me, this is my life. This is real. I’m not dreaming the fact that I’m on my way to Arabic class. I’m not dreaming the fact that I got Joshua 24:15 tattooed around my ankle. This is real. And it is good.
As I sat and pondered the question, “Are you who you want to be?” a bit, I realized how much I’ve changed over the years, yet, how happy I am about that. Had you asked me right after graduating high school where I pictured myself in 4 years, it sure as heck wouldn’t be in some Arabic class with a bunch of high school students. But I also wouldn’t have pictured myself willing to live out of a backpack and in a tent for a year either and hey, I’m willing to do that now too.
Life now isn’t everything I dreamed it would be-it’s so much better! Sometimes I still find myself tempted to close my eyes so this life, which must be a dream, can continue. But I don’t have to. This ismy life. Thisis who I want to be . I am by no means perfect nor have I reached some sort of place of contentment where I’m willing to stop. I am simply saying, my life, as is right now, is great and I’m who I want to be. Who I want to be is someone who strives to serve God and I will continue to be that person until the day I can sing praises to my Lord in paradise!
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!! –Joshua 24:15
I apologize, I realize today is suppose to be a financial update day. However, I was really feeling motivated to write this blog. So much so that I gave up my lunch break to write it. If you would like to contribute to me though, I could still definitely use it! God had blessed me with generous donors lately but I am still far from my goal. To donate, simply click on the Support Me tab on the left. You can also support me by buying one of the amazingly great tshirts I am selling. To see more information about those, just click here. Thank you and may God bless you all!
