Disclaimer!!! I am the worst kind of person and don’t take nearly enough pictures. I am pretty sure I don’t have photo credit for any of these pictures. So, thanks to all the people I stole them from! (most likely people from my last team).
Lately, I’ve been reflecting a little on this life we’re living and how strikingly different it is from the life I lived back home. So here’s just a few thoughts on what we consider “normal” on the race:
- Having a conversation take 3 people and 20 minutes to find out where the nearest coffee shop is. — Translators are AMAZING, but sometimes you even need a translator for your translator (usually me… I speak very good broken English).
- Hopping in the back of a truck, tuk-tuk, car, or any other vehicle with a *complete* stranger. — Just to be clear… not usually an actual stranger, just someone we hadn’t met before…
- Free table outfits… They’re a thing… (Thanks, Kev)

- The “smell check” being a valid measure of whether or not your clothes are clean.
- Squatty Potties… They are a thing literally everywhere else… not sure what that is? Google it…
- The use of pretty much anything or any place as a bed, pillow or blanket.
- Having a designated “sweat” outfit, as in, the outfit you where when you know you will do nothing but sweat… which is pretty much everyday.
- “I haven’t showered/shaved/washed my hair in _____ days.” Really… no matter which you use or what number you put there… totally normal.
- Telling your testimony, sharing a message or a word of encouragement on a moments notice. — Thankful for the Holy Spirit and His guidance.
- Exotic animals and exotic food. Exotic animals in your food.

- A biblical question comes up, or someone asks for a verse and the 5 people around them all pull a Bible our of their bag, pocket or purse to find the answer. –YES! Hello, community!
- Cuddle Puddles. We just love each other so much.
-

- Random people taking picture of you everywhere you go… They don’t even ask…
- Group Photos… everywhere… all the time… with everyone

This is just to name a few. I have more pictures and will be posting more soon, but our wifi at our current locations is in and out along with the power (also normal).
More to come soon
