I’ve been in Africa for over a month now. First in Guija, Mozambique and I am currently in Manzini, Swaziland. It has been crazy, wonderful, beautiful and God has moved in MAJOR ways. But here are just some thoughts to keep you updated on what life is like in Africa:
— January is monsoon season in Mozambique… Like for real, for real … and everything stops when it rains in Africa.
— In many places here, everything is done outside: dishes, cooking, laundry, all of it. We have slept outside the entire time so far.
— Africa is full of BUGS! Millipedes, flies, mosquitoes, spiders. There are creepy crawlies everywhere. I saw a snail as big as my head, no exaggeration! But no worries! We are safe.
— Everything is bigger in Texas? NO! Everything is bigger in Africa!
— Munungu, the Shangaan word for White person will become every child’s name for you.
— Everyone walks here, and they walk far. Like, we probably walked 5 miles a day.
— Visitors and strangers welcome prayer with joy and thanksgiving. Totally not something we are used to but it is so great to see how God works in that.
— an 85*F day is chilly. Like, for real, I put a flannel on.
— It is over 100*F all the time. Sticky, hot… Africa.
— We got Pao, portuguese bread, in Mozambique everyday and it was SO GOOD.
— Cows, goats, chickens, pigs, and pretty much any other livestock you could think of walk the streets in Guija daily.
— We hauled water in 5 gallon (ish) buckets everyday. (haha light wieght!!)
— The majority of people we met in Mozambique were widows or orphans. Almost all of them talked about how they were cared for by the church or their neighbors. They bring a whole new meaning to “it takes a village” because here… it really does.
Overall, I LOVED Mozambique. It was hot, sticky, sweaty, and a little crazy at times but I got to do kingdom work and I am so happy that he has blessed me enough to bring me here and I am beyond thankful for each and every one you who have prayed, shared, helped fundraise or personally donated. I pray that you will continue to support me on this journey. My next goal is to have $13,000 by the end of this month in order to stay on the field and I need your help! Share, donate, pray for me please!
Much love from Swazi!
