“God places the lonely in families…”
(Psalms 68:6 NIV) That was the scripture
that was pressed upon my heart when trying to think of a person who has
inspired my beliefs, because instead of immediately thinking of one person so
many faces came to mind. I thought of
Ben, who first walked into church heart broken at the loss of his best friend
and feeling completely guilty and alone; who is now filled with purpose and
destiny serving as a youth leader and has put his break dancing skills to work
in places like the streets of Brazil, Mexico City and Uganda.
I thought of Rochelle who is the the most selfless and loving person I have ever met, but whose testimony is
that she used to literally hate people and hate the church. She has a servant’s heart that shows me how
to love the hard to love and reminds me that reaching out is a lifestyle not an
event. Krystle knew the Lord from
growing up in the church, but while away at college was not walking with Him
which left her hurt, alone and depressed.
After being invited by a friend, came on a whim and found restoration,
friends and has developed an amazing gift of being able to encourage
others. As my roommate, she inspires me
everyday and pushes me to be all that God has called me to be.
Shawn wandered into bible study one
day in search of a family and love that he just couldn’t seem to find anywhere
else. Upon being embraced and
touched by God right away, he knew he’d found the family he’d been looking
for. Now he can’t get enough of God and
is passionately seeking Him like never before, holding nothing back. Olivia suffered from a back injury for years
and came to a mid-week service as a last resort of being healed. God performed a miracle and healed her back
and her heart and she is now a kindergarten teacher at a Christian school
loving on hurting children everyday.
Lala was a single mom who was
hopeless and lonely trying to fill a void in her heart with boyfriends and
alcohol. She is now married and serving
the Lord ministering to her two children and several young girls at the
church. Andrew got in a car accident
when he was 17 years old that woke him up to the thought that there could be more to
live for than skating and parties. He
is an anointed Youth Pastor and Worship Leader whose passion for God is
contagious. He is truly a man after God’s own heart.
These are just a few of the many
stories of people that make up the family God has placed me in that have been
transformed by the love and resurrecting power of God. Together we all make up the body of Christ
Jesus who is at the center of all I believe.
With such a passionate and genuine group of people after God’s own heart
around me, how can I not believe?
Through them, I see Jesus all around me.
