Somewhere and somehow we got it wrong. Instead of veering off course a little, we took a sharp left hand turn and stayed in that direction. Along the way we grabbed everything we could. We claimed possessions that were never suppose to be ours. We weren’t satisfied with those things, instead we wanted more and more. We weren’t happy until our houses were filled with things we thought we needed.

That is where it went wrong. It went wrong when we started thinking we needed things. It went wrong when we started claiming possessions. It went wrong when we thought things alone could make us happy. It went wrong when we deemed things as “ours” and “mine.”

The Lord has been stripping me of things. He has been stripping me of things even to the point of trying to no longer use the words “my” or “mine.” I am learning that I have no possessions that truly belong to me. I have nothing, except Jesus.

You want to do something scary? Try surrendering your family into His hands.

You want to do something scary? Try surrendering yourself into His hands.

You want to do something scary? Try surrendering everything that you think is yours.

Abraham was asked to sacrifice his own son, Isaac. Why? The Lord knew Abraham was coveting Issac in his heart far above the Lord himself. In a way, Abraham, was making Issac an idol instead of the Lord. The Lord gave Issac as a gift to Abraham, and Abraham coveted Issac as a possession where he claimed Issac as his son.

The Lord tested Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his most precious possession to see if he would be willing to let the Lord alone reign in his heart. Abraham was willing to go through with the sacrifice. He was that committed to obeying the Lord. That blows my mind every time I read it and think about it. Abraham was asked to sacrifice a very precious possession, his son. Would you be willing to sacrifice your own child if that is what the Lord asked of you?

What are you willing to sacrifice for the Lord? What in this life is truly ours anyways?

Abraham offered his son.

The Lord offered his only Son.

Isaac carried the wood to the alter.

Jesus carried the cross.

Isaac was laid on the altar.

Jesus was nailed to the cross.

Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son.

The Lord willed that his Son should die.

The ram was offered in place of Isaac.

Christ was offered in place of US.

Abraham received his son back.

Jesus literally rose from the dead.

What is your most precious possession? What idol is in your heart? Are you willing to give it to the Lord?

The Lord can take much better care of our precious possessions more than we could ever dream of.

The Lord gave his most precious possession for us. What are you willing to lay down for Jesus’ sake?

Your family? Your friends? Your spouse? Your home? Your job? Your money? Your identity? Your unhealthy habits?
