Ministry here is an interesting adjustment even for the night owls on our team. Most nights we have prayer at different church members houses. The prayers usually last till close to eleven, and then we eat dinner. We return back to our lodging between eleven and midnight most nights. The exception is the nights that we have sports ministry.Last Saturday night for instance, we didn’t leave the football field till almost 2:30 in the morning.
Our mornings here are usually spent at a special needs home. Most of the people there are adults ranging in age from thirty to seventy. There are three teenage boys there, two are fourteen, and the youngest is twelve. One of the fourteen year olds in wheelchair bound and the other two boys are orphans with disorders.
The two orphans, James and Peter, always have so much joy. My favorite person at the home is a 54 year old man whom we have started calling “uncle Bob.” I have never not seen him smiling. He constantly makes me laugh and we carry on conversations not knowing what the either of us is saying. He speaks Malay the whole time, and I speak English. We sing, we dance, we color, but mostly we just talk and laugh. He usually is the highlight of my day.
We spend the afternoons teaching English to children. There are usually twelve that show up consistently. They range in ages from six to nineteen. We teach them different stories in the bible and then we act them out in different groups. We will usually have them for a few hours and then we get some down time before heading out to do house prayers.
For a morning person, the schedule has been a huge adjustment for me. I find it funny that even the night owls are struggling here. The one humorous thing that our late nights lead to are the sleep deprived conversations we have. Then we relive them in the morning and laugh all over again at the random things we say in delusional states of mind.
This week marks the half way point of our mission trip. We have been on the field for five and a half months now. Time has flown by for me without a doubt. The only thing that makes me realize how much time has passed is when I am face-timing my nephews and nieces and I see how much they have changed the past several months.
My next and FINAL financial deadline is in two weeks and I am still a few thousand away from reaching it. I know some of you would like me to come home early, but I really don’t want to go home early. I can’t reach out to people to ask for donations like I would like to because I am around limited wifi, especially with our crazy schedule this month. Please share this blog, or other postings, with family, friends, co-workers, and church members, so that I might reach my deadline. The link to donate is on the left hand side of this page where it says ?Support me, Please.” And donations are tax deductible. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, help me!!!
To those of you who have donated, I greatly appreciate it! I know raising over three thousand dollars in two weeks doesn’t seem feasible but the Lord works miracles daily!
—Pray for my funding please:)
