So about a couple weeks ago my whole day was thrown for a loop. Why you may ask? Well a girl in her early twenties came into my work with a counterfeit $100 bill. It had the appearance of an old $100 bill but it felt different almost as if it was wet but it wasn’t. It in stead was completely fake, so I had to go through the steps with security and the police so that they can catch her. Come to find out she hit a couple other stores in our shopping center as well. This of course made my heart break and ask questions like what lead her to that point, to take a chance that she could ruin her life in just a few minutes. This of course was a planned out crime and she needs to learn but at the same time I want God to wreck her heart and turn her from her wicked ways.
As the days passed I continued to pray about what happened. God began to speak to me about many things on the subject of “Counterfeit”. Which lead to questions like what leads to counterfeit? was it out of desperation because no one ever reached out? was the gospel ever shared with her?
Counterfeit by definition means made in exact imitation of something valuable or important with the intention to deceive or defraud.
Sometimes we live lives that are counterfeit without even realizing it as such. For example would be living beyond our means. You know the I must have this to stay up to date, but you don’t have the funds to do so so you charge it which in turn you pay more for it in the long run or go into debut. You do it to keep up an image to this world that you are not out of touch with it wither it is clothes, electronics, phones, going out, etc. Then again it might be you act one way in front of one group of people and act another in front of others. We may call it two faced, we may call trying to fit in. In Matthew 6:24 it says “No one can serve two masters. either you will hate the one and love the other or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You can not serve both God and money.” Revelations 3:15-16″I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were one or the other! so because you are lukewarm- neither hot nor cold, I am about to spit you out of your mouth.” God does not want counterfeit relationships with us! He wants all of us, He is a jealous God and He will not share us with any other god(the stuff we must have, the people that we must act like so we fit in, etc. there are so many counterfeit gods).
These counterfeit gods never satisfy us, we are always left wanting more or better. God wants us to be satisfied in him he is the one who fills all the voids in our lives.
You may be a leader and you get to the point that you feel that you can’t ask for help because you are supposed to be the one leading others. We are supposed to turn to God in times of trouble and need help. Not showing your true self is being counterfeit. As a leader you need to show others that in that time of hard times that you can be open and show them in that time how to turn to God. The best way to lead someone is by showing them, walking it out. Not by acting like you have everything all together while inside you are falling apart.
If we let a little bit of counterfeit in our life it grows to be something bigger. Its like a seed if the seed is corrupt and you let it continue to grow instead of cutting it off then it will lead to more.
We need to stop judging a book by its cover. Get to into the deep of something. Take the bible for instance on the outside it looks plane but inside it is filled with stories of people who overcame struggles to extraordinary things because God called them out. It is life changing and spoken Word of our God. where as other books may look wonderful on the outside and are filled with garbage that lead us to destruction.
Are there any areas in your life that could be counterfeit? Where you are not living a life truly devoted to God? Are you living a life less then what God has called you to?
I know for myself I don’t want any area of my life that is not wholly devoted to God. I know I don’t want to live a life less then what God has called me to. I don’t want any part of my life to be counterfeit. I hope this helps you like it helped me.
