Wow! I can’t believe month 1 ministry is over. One this month’s highlights was being able to paint a mural in the school’s music room. At first, I was the only hand in it, but it didn’t stay that way for long. During team time, a few nights before beginning, my teammate Haley asked if she could be a part of it. Aggravatingly, I said yes.
It is beautiful when two heads are joined together. When Haley joined me in creating the space, my pride was poked in the side. I wanted to be the one to do it all, but where is the beauty in that? We had the same goal: to make something that would bless the school and to be proud of what we made.
The only thing that sits on the music room wall that is unchanged from the my original design is the heart. Everything else is different, and it is good. Haley was bold, and she brought her ideas to the table. They were nothing like the pictures I had in my head;they were better!
The team came together and finished music room in three days. We took two ideas and molded them into one. Because I said no to pride, and yes to Haley’s help, a really cool environment opened up. We had fun, we were silly, and the door was opened for deep and hard conversations.
I am really proud of the work we accomplished. Painting the mural was ministry that didn’t feel like ministry. It allowed me to be creative. It gave opportunity to learn more about Haley.
To show you a little of what those three days looked like, I made a video. Watch, and see the room come to life!
