Today we were blessed to be able to go on a safari. It was unexpected yet a wonderful experience. We were able to be a part of God’s creation in a way that many only dream about. For that I am very grateful. 10 of us dressed like Eskimos and rode the open air vehicle to the National Park where the animals reside. I wore a short sleeve shirt, long sleeve shirt, turtle neck, fleece, gloves, zip off pants, and toe socks with my flip flops. It was crazy as the wind beat against us, yet thrilling all at the same time. The rest rode in covered vans.
Many of the magnificent animals we saw include rhinos, elephants, giraffe, impala, ostrich, and some birds. My vehicle was charged by rhinos-no one was hurt-praise God they didn’t actually touch our vehicle but were very close and we were able to capture it all on film both still and moving. I hope we are able to upload that footage so you can experience this moment with us.
An elephant devoured a small tree for a snack and captured our attention as well. The giraffes were majestic in their peek a boo appearances in the trees as they gracefully walked about leaning over to reach their food. The lions were together in a pride of 6 that we spotted. There was one male who was fierce and definitely dripped of power and control out here. The other 5 females were by his side.
Through the safari I was able to see how well the animals are actually protected. It is mind boggling to watch a huge elephant disappear before your eyes. The plants, trees, etc really provide refuge and protection for them. I am reminded of the scripture Matthew 6: 25-26 ” Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes. Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” If God is able to hide a huge elephant and provides even for the birds, He will be able to hide each of us when necessary and will meet all of our needs. I am excited to watch this unfold this year.
