We are here in South Africa at Refilwe. Refilwe means hope and is a facility that provides a variety of ministries including: foster parenting; skills development such as sewing, carpentry, welding, brick making, livestock/agriculture; NOAH (Nuturing Orphans of Aids by Humanity) an afterschool program; Preschool (creche); church planting; drop in center with community support including a feeding program, showers and washing troughs for clothes; a HIV/TB clinic.
We have been cleaning up today in preparation for Sebenzela summer camp that starts on Mon. Today (Fri) starts camp training for us. We will be doing small groups, crafts, Bible studies, and recreation with the children that come to camp. Our schedule will look something like: 0800-arrive and pray; 0900-0945- registration/celebration-group worship time; 1000-1130-small groups/recreation; 1130-1300-recreation/small groups; 1300-1330-lunch; 1330-1400-celbration-wrap up. Our theme for camp is God’s love is: Day 1. Powerful Day 2. Saves Day 3. Provides Day 4. Protects Day 5-Review. After camp the children go home and we will be doing small group Bible studies with the foster parents here on the property as well as youth ministry in the evenings.
We are blessed to be here and able to stay indoors and have electricity, running water-even hot water at the guys’ house, and internet. The weather here is very cold in the morning as it was 47F in the girls’ house Thursday morning and warms up to the 70’sF during the day. Lots of layering going on. Feels like 4 seasons in one day. Below are some pics of our first day of clean up ministry here.
