Chirp, Chirp….My given name is Heather, but my closest friends and family call me Cricket 🙂 Born and raised in SC, I am the youngest of 2 girls. My sister, Heidi, is 14 months older than me, teaches 4th grade, and is married with 1 son, Trevor. It is truly a blessing that we are so close in age and have such a wonderful relationship.
In Junior High School, I accpeted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. After High School, I went to University of South Carolina Spartanburg (USCS) where I earned my bachelor’s in biology. Shortly after graduating I was blessed to go on a medical mission trip to Kenya where I felt called to medical missions. Upon returning, I enrolled in nursing school at USCS. Two days after graduating with my bachelor’s in nursing, I was blessed to serve as a camp nurse in Kenya for the summer of 2003. God has blessed me to serve in Kenya 5 times, including the summers of 2003 and 2005.
Since my return from Kenya, I work as an operating room nurse at a level 1 trauma center.
My passion in life is missions, travel, and experiencing new cultures. I have been blessed to travel and experience the culture in more than 30 countries. Some highlights from my mission experience include 5 of my girls at camp accepting Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, visiting my sponsored child, and building relationships with the natives-returning and seeing their growth in Christ and the joy and encouragement that our return brings them. Some of the adventures on our days off include waterrafting the Nile River, bungee jumping at Victoria Falls, and climbing Mount Kenya.
I have always felt drawn to other cultures and therefore wanted to backpack around the world. The Amazing Race on TV has always been appealing to me. But God has so much more in store for us than we can ever imagine. He always seems to bless us beyond our imagination. And God has done just that in providing The World Race. The World Race incorporates missions, backpacking around the world, and the race aspect-how awesome is that? It is truly exciting to be a part of what God is doing around the World. I am truly looking forward to God rocking my world on The World Race.
