Its been a fairly busy week doing ministry for me. We leave the house every day around 8 so we can get our walk out of the way while it is still cool. Then we have been leading VBS type activities for the kids in La Villa Liberacion. We did Adam and Eve, Noah, Joseph, Moses, and David and Goliath this week, and will be doing the new testament stories next week. After we finish our lessons we play with the kids and try to walk around and try to visit with families until lunch.

Thursday, after spending an hour or so doing this, we noticed some black smoke pouring into the air nearby. We asked some people walking by what was going on and they told us it was a riot to protest the neighborhood not having reliable power. We decided that it would be good to get out of the area before things had a chance to get more out of hand. We ended up walking by the fires on the way home and it turned out that people had set tires on fire and created roadblocks, but were otherwise peacefully standing around. All was quiet again by the time we returned on Friday.
Tomorrow afternoon, we are hosting a block party for the whole neighborhood. The locals think its a bit crazy, but I think it will be great. We are hoping to share our faith and empower all the local churches to begin to work together for the Lord. It has become apparent in the last week that the churches don’t associate with each other and so we are hoping to get them to realize that they all serve the same God.
Only one week left until we leave for Haiti. Its hard to believe we’ve been here almost a month already, but the heat and the sun along with the kids constant need for attention is draining. It has been great in the DR but I am also looking forward to getting to Haiti and seeing what God is doing there.
Look for a new picture album to be up around the end of the week as I want to get it uploaded before I leave for Haiti, as it sounds like internet will be harder to come by there.
