As preparation for the World Race we went through the devotional “The Art of Listening Prayer”. This devotional has really challenged me in how I hear from God. It’s helped me see new ways to hear from Him and encouraged me so much in all that He has to tell me!
But it’s not always the profound crazy booming voices, or even still small voices. God is creative! If you don’t believe me, look out a window.
God should never be put into a box, in how He works, in how He speaks or how good He is.
God wants to talk to us, we just aren’t always paying attention. I know this is definitely true in my own life!
Anyway, I was on day 9 of the devotional and at Biggby Coffee. I was listening to Spotify to keep myself more focused, usually I would do this devotional by myself at home.
The devotional had me ask God if I had failed to keep an open mind about the ways in which God chooses to speak to me.
From there I knew I had missed many of the things God has tried to tell me in the past.
Then the devotional asked me to ask God what I can do to better trust Him. This was the day God revealed to me the simple truth of you trust what you know. He was challenging me to be in His presence more and abide in Him.
Side-note: Abide has been a buzz word God has had for me a lot lately!!
Then to end the devotional I was challenged to ask God if there was anything else He wanted to say to me. As I began listening for God an advertisement video came on in Spotify. Naturally I turned down my headphones so I could continue to focus and as I did the cashier told a customer, “you’re all set.”
“You’re all set.” A phrase we hear a lot in grocery stores and restaurants but today I was hearing it in a different way.
My heart began beating fast.
I felt heavy and light at the same time.
My brain went blank.
And I knew…
That was from God.
God was telling me:
You’re all set.
Stop worrying.
I’ve got you.
I love you.
I have a plan.
And so much more.
The girl who said it has no idea the impact those three words had on me.
God really showed me that day and many days since then that He works in seriously mysterious ways. We don’t always see them unless we are paying attention but if we are then the amount God is communicating with His people is astounding. It’s constant, we just have to be paying attention!
