Sometimes God likes to show up and show off, sometimes He likes to do things in very subtle ways, if you’re not looking for it you might even miss it.
God recently reminded me of a work that He did in my life. It isn’t something that from the outside anyone would think was too important or an answer to prayer, but to me it was a big deal.
The way that He reminded me of it was so very simple: I open a drawer and found a pink pen inside it. There was nothing too special about this pen, it was just a pink pen but I thought to myself ‘why is there a pen in the bathroom drawer?’ So I looked and found a sticky note pad upside down and flipped it over and saw the list of all of the Urgent Cares within an hour of my parent’s house and was reminded of God‘s answer to prayer of getting an EpiPen for the world race.
They were many hurtles on the day that I had to get the EpiPen. Yes I only had one day to do it and it took hours cost me about $100.
Here are just some of the hurdles that God manage to break down: there were several doctors making the claim that they had never been my doctor before or that they had no records of me being treated. One claimed that they had no record of me ever going to that doctor, where are used to go twice a week to receive allergy shots. The other doctor moved to another state and I had to call them and fax them several times for the release of my records to a different doctor and they also tried to tell me they did not have the records from my most recent visit. Through the whole process I ended up just going to an urgent care at the end because I didn’t want to give up and I knew that if God wanted me to go on the World Race He was going to make this happen but I just had to do some work for it! I called almost every Urgent Care and explained what I needed over and over again. It turns out an EpiPen just in case you come across a serious allergen in another country is not a common request.
This experience is just one of so many in my life where God has shown me the truth of Pastor Nate Elarton’s words: “Sometimes we wait for God to open the door but maybe God wants us to take a step back and kick the door down ourselves.”
How are we supposed to be a part of the story He has for us if we are expecting everything to just fall into our laps. He wants us to work for what we’re going to do for His glory and lay it all back down at His feet and humbly give Him all of the credit.
If we can’t sacrifice a little bit of our time and effort when He can sacrifice His only son for us, what’s really the point?
This is what God has been teaching me. From months ago, before I even knew what the World Race was, to now, seeing it in action and living it out as best as I can.
