We are in Nepal. It’s month 5 and our squad of 32 people just had team changes. Team Tent will remain forever in our hearts but in this new season I am now on a coed team and our name is Team Legacy.

Our team is made up of Kaydan and Katherine Field (the beautiful married couple on our squad), Preston Robinson (prayer warrior and worship leader), Michael Pickett (Our team leader), Chandler Whidden (treasurer), and Kaysha Spence (former Team Tent member). God is so good because at some point on the Race so far I’ve gotten to serve we these powerful men and woman of God and I feel so blessed He put us together the way that He did. (Let’s be real.. our team is pretty stacked and it’s so exciting! )

This month we are in Nepal, which is a closed country, which automatically breeds dependece on God for discernment and guidance in itself. This month is also our ATL (Ask the Lord) month. This essentially means that we have no set ministry host and, as a team, we pray and ask God where He wants us for the month. So it is 100% spirit lead which is exciting because it gives God so much space to move. This means that, Lord willing, there are endless open doors for us to go wherever He leads us to share the Gospel.

It is an incredible opportunity for us to share the Gospel with everyone we encounter on a daily basis while simply doing life here in Nepal. We have the opportunity to share the Gospel with hundreds of people who have probably never heard it before.

To put it in perspective, “Nepal is comprised of 275 people groups. Out of those, 266 are considered unreached; 96.7% of Nepalese have never heard the gospel.” And we get the opportunity to share it with them.

The greatest desire that was placed on the heart of our team was to look into trekking options and be able to witness to hikers on the trail with us, our hiking guide, and the people in the villages that we will pass through.

Psalm 37:4 tells us “Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” By delighting in the Lord and giving all the glory to Him, we are confident that God will fulfill this dream that we have. One thing that we decided as a team was: if we are going to have a dream to trek and share the Gospel with everyone we encounter, we are going to dream BIG. We want to dream big so that we know that the glory goes to whom it is rightfully due. We want to dream big so that we know that we could never have had this experience without God blessing it every step of the way. Ultimately, ALL the glory will go to Him.

Now that all the buildup and suspense is in place… let me share this dream that we developed as a team. Our dream is to go trekking through Tsum Valley. “Tsum Valley was a restricted area until it was opened for trekking in 2008 and there is a little information available on the area.”

The Tsum Valley is a sacred Himalayan pilgrimage valley situated in northern Gorkha, Nepal. This valley is comprised of two remote villages called Chumchet and Chhekampar. The local people in this area are mostly of the Tibetan origin and speak a unique dialect. Most of the people in this area are Buddhist. Due to the Tsum Valley’s remoteness and inaccessibility, this sacred valley and its people have been bypassed by mainstream development for centuries. As a result, the unique culture of this valley has remained intact.

As Team Legacy, we believe that God has both placed us here and given us a heart for this area for a reason. Our desire is to leave a legacy here in Nepal, with these people groups, that points to the love of Jesus.

Initially when the idea came about, my heart was in it but when it was apparent that to do something like this it would take more funds than any of us had and more than what was previously fundraised for via World Race I had a big NO in my spirit.

The idea of asking the supporters, family, and friends who have graciously given to get me here sounded not so pleasant becasue of how gracious, loving, and freely giving they have been to get me here.

As we continued researching and found the Tsum Valley region and the details unfolded of how isolated and unreached it is I had an automatic YES in my spirit and was filled with excitement about this journey.

As our team prayed, researched, and brainstormed together doors kept/keep opening and with each turn we were getting signs of confirmation.

The last two days have been wild, crazy, and beautiful seeing God give us all a heart for this, hope, and faith in Him. If He wants this to happen it will because He is sovereign!

I also am learning that the NO in spirit was my pride and was reminded that all money is God’s money and this isn’t about me at all. This is about the Great Commission. This is about dying to myself, having an open heart and open hands, and trusting in Him with every step. This is about sharing the gospel with all of those who’ve never had the opportunity to hear  and experience the love of Jesus.

Nepal is a fun and adventurous place on the outside, but it’s almost as if it’s a mask. Things seem exciting on the outside but looking deeper I can see and feel a longing for more. So many people here are searching and seeking. They’re lost and nothing will suffice the hole in our souls except Jesus. It doesn’t matter how hard we try, how far we go, how many mountains we climb, how many idols/possessions we have…. it will NEVER be enough to fulfill the longing we ALL have for Him. Jesus is the ONLY answer. It’s so crystal clear to me because I used to be the lost one. The searching one. The hurting one. I convinced myself things were okay and that I was happy… but those were such lies. By the grace of God I don’t have live that way anymore. That old me died with Christ and a new me rose again with Him.

A life with Jesus is fulfilling. He is enough. And we have the opportunity to share that here and we need support.

I’m humbly asking that if God puts it on your heart to partner on this journey with us that you give here paypal.me/michaelspickett
Our fundraising goal is $3,624 and we leave on the 23rd which leaves 4 days to raise the money. It is such a bold step but bold and outlandish dreams leave room for God to move and in turn only He could get the glory for something so impossible.
