God is Bananas!

This morning was our first adventure scoping out how possible it would be to run here and continue to train for a half marathon that we have been praying for since the beginning that God will give us an opportunity to do at some point on our World Race.

We decided to go on a new path we were directed to, to find a school that we were told had space to run, and that’s when it all started!

We made our way to the school and found that we wanted to continue on the road.

We continued and every time we thought the road had ended it, as we kept pursuing the road it kept going, and eventually turned into trails that kept going too.

Eventually we had reached a point where we weren’t sure what path to take and from a house down below there was a resident that was directing us to come down a certain path and then told us to go a certain way. Then we came upon another crossroads where someone else told us where to go and where to turn.

We were full of excitement and joy because what had begun as a pursuit to run turned into an adventure that was directed by God because …

Once the trail had brought us to the river we looked up really high across from the river and there was a woman and a little boy standing on the road.

They waved and were yelling in excitement to us and so we yelled in excitement to them.

A beautiful thing about God is that He works in mysterious ways.

What we didn’t know right away was that this was one of the few people we met yesterday at our compound that saw some of our squad mates braiding hair and walked right in because she wanted to help braid and made plans to come back today to braid my teammate Tee’s hair.

This woman’s name was Vickie and she recognized Tee when we were far away across the river. We were so excited that God put her in our path this morning! We asked her how to get back to our compound because we had gone really far on the trails and paths. She pointed up the road from where she and her son were  standing.

Her son (8 years old) climbed down and he escorted us across the river 🙂 so we climbed up and got on the road and she gave me and my three other squad mates, bananas! When the day before we discovered this month was going to be really tight with our food budget and we talked about how we need to trust the Lord with provision and that it is a blessing to be able to watch Him provide and trust Him through times of hunger, and the very next day He gifted us with bananas!

After we had big smiles on our faces and a banana in hand she escorted us back to our compound safe and sound.

She told us we would see her son at church.

When we got back to the compound we discovered through our squad leader that had spent time with her yesterday that she had three children and her husband died three years ago in a motorcycle accident. She doesn’t go to church but her son that we met does.

She sells bananas and mangoes.

God put her in our path for a reason and I can’t wait for Him to continue to reveal what He’s up to.

God is Bananas. The way He works and how He does. Things that happen that aren’t pure coincidence, they were orchestrated so beautifully and only He is the author of such things.
