I joined the World Race to see a different side of God than I had seen before. I wanted to see the Lord in a way that brought so much glory to who He is and showed me how gracious He is. A lot of times I believe the Lord shows me physically who He is through the people in my life loving me well. He first showed me through the 5 young teenagers that still have my heart in Uganda and now through the 4 people on my team. There’s something really special about seeing the Lord through others that can physically touch you, emotionally uplift you and show you that they care.

So far in the first five days of the Race I have seen a group of people with a passion to make me into a better person. They strive to make me into the person that God wants me to be. I have had some deep conversations with people that I have not even spent a month of time with. Not only is this trip going to grow and change me into who the Lord wants me to be. But it’s also going to be an opportunity for me to walk away with friends for a lifetime. For that, I am so thankful. There’s something really special about people telling you that you are loved, cherished and needed in a situation. I’ve never felt so full and protected by a group of people. They are for me, just like the Lord. It’s mind blowing how much He loves.

A little update on our first week in Haiti:

We arrived in Montrouis, (pronounced Mowi) Haiti on Tuesday. Our first full day here we began to play soccer (ball) with the Haitians. We played a good two hours the first day and didn’t do too well, but decided that we would make this into a Monday through Friday ministry. So for the next three days we met at the field at 8:30 to play the Haitians in a soccer match. We are getting better and are hoping that throughout the month we can maybe win a game.

The ministry that we are with this month is Together We Can-Haiti. They are amazing people and their ministry is so relationship-driven. This week we have built cabinets at their woodworking shop, pulled weeds at their farm, and tutored kids struggling with various subjects. It’s been awesome to get involved in whatever way we would like to. Our host is laid back and wants us to help where we will comfortable. It’s been a lot of work, but we definitely feel that we will be able to complete some projects with them by the end of the month. They are also in the middle of setting up a water project in the community that will be self-sustaining. This will provide 1000 homes with clean water directly to their homes. TWC is all about empowering people without handouts and it’s really cool to see people with this mindset. Our first week was great and I cannot wait to see what the Lord has for our next few weeks here.
