Sua se dai! (Hello in Khmer – the language of the Cambodian people)
We have arrived safe and well in Cambodia. We traveled 17 hours Thursday and arrived in Phnomh Penn on Friday about 1:30am. That was a large group of tired World Racers!
We have been getting acclimated to the city and the culture the last couple of days. We had a 3 hour orientation on Friday to help us learn a bit of the cultural norms and the history of Cambodia. We are staying at the YWAM base here in the city and they have been a huge blessing and support in Southeast Asia.
Saturday we did a city tour and saw the killing fields and the torture museum where the Khmer Rouge committed so many atrocities in the 70’s. Something we just learned about Cambodia is that they have only been at true peace since 1998-1999. So the country is just getting back on its feet from 30 years of war. You can really see the effects of it througout the city. Buddhism is the national religion and here it is mixed with Hinduism and Animism. Only 5% of the population are Christians here in Cambodia.
This month we will be living in Phnomh Penn and working with an orphanage called Love In Action. It is an Australian woman who is a missionary in Phnomh Penn. There are 2 homes for the children. A boys house and a girls house. She also has 4 infants that live in her personal home that she takes care of. We will be living above the boys home! So it should be interesting. We are excited to jump into ministry and as always we appreciate your prayers.
PS – Electronic updates…My computer is dead and getting fixed in Bangkok so that is a bit tricky. And my camera was not working but it started to work again today! Praise the Lord and pray that it will continue working so I can share with you in pictures our ministry in Cambodia.
