We are in month 4 and this month we have the incredible opportunity to work with Help Cambodia Organization. They work in sex trafficking prevention where they are given boys and girls who are at risk for being sold. A child at risk could be someone with addicted parents or a single parent who are desperate for resources for money. In this country children are viewed as resources.
You might be thinking “why would anybody willingly sell their kid?” In this culture they believe in karma, if you were born into a poor family you did something in your past life to “deserve” it. The family will utilize the children in a way they feel is “deserved” for as long as they want. Selling their children into sex slavery is just another avenue for money.
This organization comes in and offers the family another option, to offer their kids an education in English (learning English here means you are guaranteed a job) and also to give them a safe place to live … some people will give their children and some people will keep their kids in the industry. Sex trafficking is illegal in Cambodia but nothing is really done about it.
There are about 25 girls and boys on the property here, the government wants to keep siblings together so the boys have been welcomed on the property recently. They live in separate homes but all have a house mom and dad where they get a family atmosphere. Our host wants these kids to stick to Cambodia traditions like learning to cook and clean and wash laundry by hand. We get to spend our afternoons and evenings with them building relationships and really showing them the Lords love through our actions.
This place really feels like home, we are cooking our own food (following recipes provided by our hosts), we have real towels and COMFY beds.. We would love you prayers throughout this month, we are trying to focus on being intentional with each other and with the Lord because this might be our last month together as a team (don’t want to talk about it… heart… breaking…) Some of us are still fundraising and we need to be fully funded by the end of the month!
