My team is reading through James together, today we read James 2. Faith and deeds. They go hand in hand, you really aren’t doing one well without the other, it actually says in the Bible that one is worthless without the other. That couldn’t be more true.
“In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.” -James 2:17-18 NIV
Deeds aren’t a requirement to “earn” salvation, it’s an overflow of the love the Lord puts in you.
Its not that we gain anything from our deeds, but rather we can show others the love and light of Christ through our works and stories.
In reality I didn’t start practicing that until I got on the race. It’s been nice reflecting over the past (almost) 5 months on the race, with each country how I’ve had the opportunity to care for the people the world forgets about..
The orphans and widows, people who often get pushed aside in society.
Caring for the untouchables of India, giving and receiving love from humans that are shunned from society.
Seeing the prevention side of the fight against sex-trafficking. Being more aware of the reality of the industry that is so HUGE in this world. Being with the girls who could have been slaves and seeing them live a life where they are told they are worthy and they know they are beautifully loved by God.
Showing the Lords love and light with these people, giving them hope for the future, showing them they can be healed from physical and emotional trauma and that the love of the Lord is what they have been searching for.
One final thought on what I’ve learned most on the race, the real impact is what God is doing in us, don’t get stuck on where you’re going but get stuck on Him. He will take care of the rest.
“… I will show you my faith by my deeds.”
