I know that its said in the Bible that Jesus was often moved with compassion, but what does that really mean..

Well by definition compassion is a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering

How do become more compassionate?

How can I look at people the way Jesus did?

As (my fav pastor) Judah Smith said a few weeks ago: “Become an innocent newcomer.”

Start being moved by simple, uncomplicated, child-like emotion for humanity.

Have a new wide-eyed wonder, like children.

Move towards one another, move towards the pain of humanity, don’t complicate it, don’t layer it, don’t consider what’s behind, just focus on who is in front of you

The Bible has taught me that compassion is loving all people, in all phases of life. Good and bad. The rich and the poor. The proud and corrupt. People who are mourning and suffering.

In Matthew Jesus says the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, mind and soul, but he also includes a second part: “loving your neighbor as yourself.” Loving your neighbor or those around you is a natural result of loving God MORE and loving God DEEPER every day.

My  prayers for the rest of my time here in Africa is that the days go by slower and that my relationships with those around me get deeper. I want to continue to see people the way that Jesus does.
