Today my squad leader Michelle and I had the opportunity to visit a hospital with my host (who is also a Doctor). We met up with some local western doctors and nurses and visited a new hospital in Chiang Mai, gathering information on what each facility provided so they can refer patients to them.

We visited a Dental Clinic, Skin Clinic, Check-In Clinic and Physical Therapy Clinic.

The group a doctors and nurses asked the head physician from each clinic different questions on what equipment they had, how much it cost for different procedures/visits, what they did in certain situations… all while we toured each facility.

I had been on a medical mission trip to Guatemala a few years ago and this place was celebrity status compared to that!!

I learned that there is a way to do a facelift NON-SURGICALLY.

I learned about the Aqua Therapy system and how high tech a pool can be.

I learned that adults are really common in the Check-In Clinic because the childhood vaccines that we get in the states aren’t provided here.

I learned that Emergency Medicine has only been in Thailand for about 4-5 years, it usually takes about 18 years to establish any area of medicine in an area. SO if you’re in a situation where you need ER treatment in Thailand.. you might not get the best treatment due to education differences.

BUT what’s awesome about these ladies I got to meet today is: They have been going around to different hospitals in Thailand and rating them so they know who to recommend for the best treatment given any situation.

We also couldn’t miss this photo shoot with an old friend..

We had such a fun time being a fly on the wall in one of their medical meetings.
