Amidst all the change and adjusting that’s taking place this season of my race, our gracious Father continues to reveal Himself to me through just about every aspect of life here in Japan. It’s the constant reminders, little and not so little, that have humbled me during this season…a season that I truthfully anticipated would be anything but enjoyable (see my previous blog post). It’s like through my struggling, He’s wanted me to have reminder after reminder that He’s still here:) But then again…why am I surprised? “…for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him” (Matthew 6:8). What a wonderful month it has been being reminded of our Father’s love.

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things.” This has been a favorite quote of mine for as long as I can remember. And wow, am I glad to have a God who cares about the little things, too:) Just a few things I’m thankful for this Thanksgiving season in Japan:

Spending the month immersed in the Japanese culture. Living with a Japanese family..ministry being primarily relational. I’ve gotten the opportunity to really live the traditional life here – tea ceremonies, calligraphy, kimonos, cooking lessons, authentic dining, working in a school, families who speak no English, crafting, porcelain making, karate class, attending a moms bible study, school performances, and the list goes on.

Living in a gorgeous, safe place. We are experiencing FALL! We are on the coast; we see the water and mountains constantly. Everyone rides bikes everywhere. All kids are walked to school. It’s safe. It’s clean. It’s my favorite weather right now.

The most gracious host mom, Manami. She displays Christ’s love daily…her hospitality, generosity, thoughtfulness, joy.

Kiddos at our host home who are snuggly, giggly and affectionate. And they even appreciate my weirdness:)

My wonderful teammate, Whitney – my “pair” at our host home. We are constantly laughing and I love her for that, especially in this season. She loves the Lord, loves her friends, and loves WELL!

A city that loves Christmas! Yes, it may be weeks away, but their Christmas cheer is in full-force come early November.

A beautiful route to ministry each day. The Family Center & preschool we’re at is right on the water (yes – it’s that little brown “cabin” in the photo:)

Returning home from a long day at ministry…to a home-cooked (YUMMY) Japanese meal and kiddos who greet us with excited squeals and jump all over us until we pick them up and love on them.

A month of rest…I’m sleeping well. I’m well-fed. I’m free of logistics planning. I’m surrounded by His beauty. He’s left me with few distractions to get between my relationship with Him:)

Starbucks just a bike ride away:) Some days, it’s the little comforts of home.

The opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving! A few of our teams on were able to get the day off of ministry! Yay! Roughly 30 of us will be gathering, complete with a traditional Thanksgiving meal and possibly even streaming of the Macy’s parade:) It may not be the same as the holidays back home, but so thankful to be able to spend it with some pretty great people.

I challenge you this season to not only consider the major ways He’s blessed you, but also look for Him in the seemingly small ways, too. His blessings are everywhere. Regardless of your circumstances this year, may you and your loved ones have a joyous Thanksgiving filled with of togetherness, food and football:)
