You know those days…weeks…when everything and anything seems to challenge you? You know, the ones that are frustrating and exhausting, all-consuming and uncomfortable? Some of you might say, “sounds like my whole life!”  Ha… Ha.

Well, I asked for that.

More fittingly, I prayed for it, I begged for it. I just didn’t expect to receive this.

Ministry is normally fairly easy for me to get consumed in. I just love it! But this day… we were going to the school. I hadn’t been there for a while, and last I heard, we were helping with their sports field. So exciting!

We arrive at the school and, wheelbarrows, rakes, and shovels in hand, we walk into the center of a giant field… and begin picking up rocks.

Five hours later, we’ve raked a small dent into the surface. And by raked I mean unearthed more rocks and by dent I mean the ground had rake marks on it. WHAT! How is this even considered helpful? Can’t the turf just go over everything? Is it possible to fit more blisters onto my hands?!

But Court… you said you wanted to be stretched. To be challenged in how you love. To confirm that where you find your joy is in Me.

So what that my hands hurt and my back aches and I’m covered in dirt? So what that there are still ten million rocks right out of sight that still cover the field? Our priority in doing ministry isn’t to serve people, but to serve God! Who cares if I don’t understand why I’m doing a certain something? As long as it glorifies the Lord, then I’ll do it.
