As we are cleaning and packing up to leave India, I wanted to write a blog about the last week and half or so. I want to share a couple short stories that goes with the title “what are the odds?”

Story 1
What are the odds that out of a city of about 3.6 million people we were invited to the same guys house that we had met before? (100%) At the start of this month, some of my team and some from another went to this market, they met some nice people and bought some nice things. A few people mentioned that they met a few guys that they had a great conversion with. They knew that we would probably go back at some point but didn’t really think about it. Last weekend we had the opportunity to go to this man house for Ramadan. We drove across the city to his house not knowing what to except. We waited on the side of the road for him to come show us where he lived. We all said hello and Jordan (one of my teammates) said to me, “hey I know him”. Turns out the man was the same person she had met at the market weeks before. So cool. We had a great time talking and eating. We talked a little about Ramadan, where he is from and difference between India and North America. We had lots to eat; cookies, deep fried peppers, rice and meat with sauce. I ate goat meatballs they were yummy. It was nice to eat some meat without the bones. On our day off that week we went back to the market where his has stall, we sat and talk for a good couple hours. I learned about scarfs, they were so beautiful. He showed us some that had over 90,000 knots on the back.
Story 2
What are the odds that an over loaded auto/jeep will make it up a hill without any problems? (7%) It’s just a thing you get use to, with many people, you will squished into any type of vehicle. For the most part you will get to where you need to go no problems. But a few times it will require extra praying to make it. Once I was in an auto (this is a vehicle that is like a motorcycle that has a bench on the back and are yellow) we had four people and then the driver all on this auto, we were driving up this hill got about half way, when it didn’t want to go up anymore. It started going backwards into the car that was behind us, we jumped out and push it up the rest of the way, jump back in and keep going, just like nothing happened. Another time we fit 15 people in this jeep looking vehicle and on the way home it stop shifting gears. It took twice as long to get home, only driving in first gear, but made it home. That’s what counts. We sang wheels on the bus hoping it would keep going.
Story 3
What are the odds that I will see my light shine bright enough for it to brake through all the darkness here, and touch someone’s heart? (100%) This month my team and I have had the opportunity to teach Sunday School to the kids that attend church here. Most of the kids that come are from SCH (Sarah’s Covenant Home), which means they most likely have some type of special needs. We would tell a bible story, play games, and colour some pictures. It always seem like organized chaos. There are two things that the kids like the most, running and colouring. Every week there is a few kids that are still colouring when everyone else is done. Last week I sat down with one. We had a few different colouring pages last week. One was a picture of Jesus surrounded by children. The little girl had rip pieces of the picture off. I started to pick up the pieces and notice that her picture only had Jesus and three kids. Only one of the kids in the picture was coloured in. I said that she was doing a good job colouring. I asked if she like to colour because she was still doing it. She said yes. She showed me her ripped up picture. I said that there isn’t many kids in the picture. She said that the one coloured in was her and the other two kids in the picture were her brothers. I almost cried. She asked if she could keep the picture and I said yes of course. She then thanked me for playing with her and teaching her and letting her colour. She said that she had so much fun. My heart broke and all I could do was smile. We sat and coloured for the last few minutes of church.
So much has happened over this month, it’s hard to write it all down. I hope I have given you all a glimpse into what God has done and is still doing over here. As my team and I leave India please keep the people here in your prayers. Please also pray for safe travels as we are heading to Nepal. If you have a prayer request comment below or email me and my team and I will pray for you.
I hope soon (depending of wifi) to have a blog just of pictures of my time here in India. Keep an eye out for that.
Until Next Time.
