A couple years ago I got into running. I am not the best runner and the fastest. But I finish in one piece and I believe that’s the most important thing. It doesn’t matter what place you come in. I love to run because IT gives me, me time. Something that’s relaxing after a long day at work or school. I have to say that I haven’t gone out as much as I would like since the starting of fall and so far this winter…..ok I haven’t really gone at all. A few friends and I have like the idea of participating in a mud hero run in June. Which happens to be the weekend after training camp. I have been thinking that it’s going to be lots of training for this run and if I am going to have enough time to commit to it.

Well then I got an email in last week saying that there is a new fitness requirement for training camp. My first thought…..Aaahhh. But after reading the whole email I believe that with some training it shouldn’t be that bad. Here’s to fingers crossed.

After reading the email I would have to agree that the World Race is as much a physically challenging journey as it is a spiritually challenging journey. Thus AIM has added a physical fitness component to training camp. Every participant will be required to hike 2 miles WITH his/her pack in 33 minutes. For all my Canadian folk and myself 2 miles is just over 3 km. The next line processed to say, don’t freak out just yet, which kinda make you want to freak out. At least I’m not a male. Sorry to say the men have more to do. In addition they must be prepared to hike 15-20 miles over a 2-day period with a modified pack. Again for all my Canadian folk and my self that is 24-32 km.

By completing this challenge at Training Camp, I will know I’m prepared to face the physical rigors of life on the Race.

But not to add any pressure, if I am unable to complete the hike, I may be asked to defer to a later route until I am physically fit enough to participate.

With this all said I now believe that I can’t keep slacking on my running any more. I got important things to work towards now. And to all those preparing for the World Race, you can do it, all it takes is one foot in front of the other.

If anyone would like to join me for a run let me I would love a run buddy, just give me a shout.

Until Next Time.
