On Wednesday night I spoke to the 1st– 4th
graders at my home church, Excelsior Covenant. I shared with them my experience
teaching 6th grade in Kenya, Africa these past two years, as well as
what I’m doing next. The kids had great questions and some were unexpected or
difficult to answer in a short time. A 3rd grade girl asked me what AIDs
was. A 2nd grade boy asked me if I know the names of any of my
students. When I answered, “of course,” he asked me to name them all. I love
how young children are so honest and can’t help but ask about what is on their
mind. As I described the World
Race a 1st grader asked, “How much does that cost?” I explained that
it was $14,300 for the whole 11 months and another kid chimed in, “How are you
going to get all that money!?!” My
answer: “With LOTS of prayer and trust that God will provide through family,
friends and churches who will support me.” Upon finishing, Pastor Judy asked 3
kids to pray for me. I almost cried when the final little boy prayed that I
could share God’s love all over the world.
