For our last week in Tanzania we lead Bible studies every
night. The Bible studies were run like short church services, with one or two
songs and a message directed to everyone in the sanctuary. Our topic for the
week was Love (God’s love, Christ’s love and the love we should have as
disciples). It went very well, I even gleaned some insight from my
teammates. On Thursday, we packed
and prepared to leave early Friday morning. We had a time for goodbyes with all
the people who had been helping us this past month: Pastor Paul & his wife,
our translators, the man who served as our security guard and the ladies who
cooked for us and did our laundry.
Our 13-hour bus ride to Uganda turned into 17 and a half hours, after
some extra stops for paperwork and a flat tire. We arrived in Jinja, Uganda at
12:30 and set up our tents in the dark. Waking-up next to the Nile and having
my first warm shower in months makes it all seem worthwhile. Less bugs, real
toilets, Fanta Passion Fruit (my favorite African soda) and a pizza in my tummy
all make this feel like a retreat. Too bad we leave in the morning. We will be
on the bus to Kampala for some cultural briefing and then on another long
bus-ride to Kumi. I’ve been told our ministry will be evangelism, door-to-door,
preaching, manual labor and VBS. I’m not sure about the Internet there, so
updates may be a while.
