"For just as the body is one and has many members; and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ."

 -1 Corinthians 12:12

I've always believed I was the appendix. When I think about the body of Christ. I've always believed that was my role. Actually, more like a LACK of a role. Nobody needs their appendix. It's just there. Until one day it causes great pain and you simply get rid of it. All my life, society as told me:

I am worthless.

    I am not needed.

        I serve no role.

            I am not special.

                Nor am I unique.

BUT GOD IS CHANGING THAT! He's showing me my worth and my purpose in His kingdom.

I am not the appendix.

So this month in Moldova, I asked God to show me what part of the body I am. And what my specific role in His kingdom is. I also asked Him to reveal to me the "body parts" of my teammates. So this is what I have prophesied about team Theo:

KJ

KJ is the RIB CAGE! (Ironically, his nickname is Kage.) He protects God's heart and His breath. He protects God's vital organs because He is strong. Also, God used one of Adam's ribs to create women. And because of that I believe KJ has a greater capacity to understand the inner workings of women.

TRAVIS

Travis is the BACKBONE! He supports the body of Christ and helps it to stand firm. He is also flexible and able to bend to the needs of the body. If the backbone is ever damage, the body loses its mobility. Travis helps the body of Christ to move where God calls!

GEORGIA

Georgia is a WHITE BLOOD CELL! She is always ready to attack the enemy from unwanted foreign bodies. She can attack the lies Satan throws at the body of Christ and replace them with truth. Georgia is also a healer. After the attack is over, she comes to the aid of the body to restore it to its original health.

EMILY

Emily is the THUMB! When you think of a symbol for serving, hands usually come to mind. Emily has such a servant's heart. But she is also encouraging, and hands are used in helping someone to their feet! Emily is learning that the thumb is useless without the hand and that the hand is useless without the thumb. The body of Christ needs its thumb!

JILLIAN

Jillian is the DIAPHRAGM! The diaphragm is used for producing laughter and for child labor (which we all know Jilly LOVES kids)! Jillian's relationship with God is like breathing for her. It comes naturally and because of that she encourages the rest of us to do the same.

KATIE

Katie is a NEURON! Neurons are the connections in the brain that relay information to the rest of the body. Katie is great at communicating. And God has given her so much knowledge and wisdom. He has also given her a passion for diving into His word! Therefore, Katie encourages the body of Christ to think and respond to the Holy Spirits' words.

ME

I am the ARTERIAL SEPTUM! (I asked God to show me a specific part of the body. I think this is pretty specific!) The arterial septum is a piece of the heart that divides the two atrium. Without the AS, the body does not receive enough oxygen because the blood mixes within the heart. Someone said to me that I am God's passion. Makes sense to be a part of the heart then!

Ironically, I was born with an Arterial Septum Defect ASD and had heart surgery two years ago to fix it. I used to joke that God had His finger in my heart plugging the hole. Now I think that isn't too far from the truth…

Which part of the body are you?

This month I was also reading "The Host" (by the same chick that wrote the Twilight series). Anyway, the gist of the story is that aliens invade the Earth and take over human bodies. However, one human fights back and the alien (called a "soul") and human share the mind within the body. But the "soul" controls the body.

In this book, I found a lot of parallels to Christianity. Our "soul" is trapped in a body that no longer belongs to us. It belongs to our human, sinful, nature. And although our "soul" can control the body, our human side sometimes breaks through. We're split in two. And we are longing to break free.

"It's not the face, but the expressions on it. It's not the voice, but what you say. It's not how you look in that body, but the things you do with it. You are beautiful."

Now that you know what part of the body of Christ you are, what are you going to do about it?
