We arrived in Nepal two days ago and took a little time to rest and recharge after an AMAZING debrief in Hyderabad, India (which I will tell you about later) before splitting off as Squad Leaders to join the teams we will minister with for the month in Nepal.
Chelsea headed out this morning, while me, Jake, and Steven Chun decided to stay one more night to join the local YWAM team in some late night street evangelism, or as they call it “Treasure Hunting”. What a divine appointment it turned out to be!
We broke up into four groups of 3-4 people and before we had even separated we found ourselves in the middle of the street praying over a group of street kids. Some were high on glue, some had health problems, and ALL were starving. A crowd drew around us as we continued to fervently pray for Jesus’ love and power to saturate their tiny bodies. More and more kids came into our circle asking for prayer and we continued to pray for them. After some time, and being confronted by the police, we split into our groups. One group took all the kids to buy and eat dinner with them, and the rest of us headed out into the night.
One of the people I felt God call me to was a woman named Sonya. As I walked up and began talking with her I learned she is from Spain and just moved here one day ago to work for a local NGO. Sonya didn’t understand much English, so I found myself using my terribly broken Spanish to explain to her about Jesus and ask if I could pray for her. I prayed many things over Sonya, and though I don’t know where God will lead her from this moment, I know a seed was planted.
We continued on this way for the next few hours and had some great God-appointed interactions with people. When we all met back up around 11:30pm we got to share in more amazing stories from the rest of the teams. It was exactly what I needed to refresh my spirit.
Many times we think that going into deeper levels of intimacy and knowledge of God involves Him taking a step toward us,.. giving us new abilities or knowledge or proof…but what God reminded me of tonight was that it’s quite the opposite…we have to take steps toward Him . We have to step out in faith, out of our comfort zone, into those risky areas where we only have our faith to rely on. Be faithful with what God has already blessed you with and he will entrust more to your care. If you want to see mountains move you must first master the mole hills.
