After dinner on Thursday we met up with an American woman who has been living here for the past four years and working in a program that rescues women from prostitution. They do prayer walks around the main prostitution hubs in the city and deliver groceries to the brothels in which the women stay as a way to build trust and open the doors to conversation. Once they’ve established relationships with women they share the message and love of Christ. If at any point in this process a woman decides she wants to leave the streets, this organization provides her a home in which to live and training in new skills from which to make a living. This ministry reaches women from all walks of life, as many of the girls in the sex trade have been brought to KL from Indonesia, China, Iran, Iraq, and other surrounding countries.

(one of the main streets in the area in which we walked)
It happened to be pouring rain the whole time we were in town, so we split into two small groups and trudged around the city streets. We prayed, delivered groceries, and talked with anyone that would give us the opportunity. One of the street vendors who is familiar with our contact even decided to give her life to Christ…or as she put it “try it Jesus’ way”.

Afterward we met up and debriefed over coffee. We talked about other amazing encounters and some of the other women this organization has touched. It was so inspiring to meet someone who literally sold everything she owned and moved to another country in order to follow God’s voice. What an awe-inspiring adventure life becomes when we take that leap of faith.
