Saturday I joined team Fruit of the Groom in Gurujudhara, a village about 30-40min outside the tourist area of Kathmandu known as Tamel. Our contact is a christian pastor we call uncle Meg, who makes his living as a guide for visitors hiking the Himalayas. He has been to Everest base camp more times than he’s bothered to count, and has a joyful, joking disposition 24 hours a day.
Our ministry here has involved many different activities, and a lot of walking. Sunday we hiked up to a prayer meeting on a mountain. Dozens of Nepalese Christians hiked or drove to the location to spent the day in prayer over Nepal and it’s people. Even though I didn’t understand a word being said or sung, it was refreshing to be in such a beautiful place with so many believers worshiping God and interceding for the masses.

Monday morning we attended a bible study in a church members’ home. We shared a message, sang, and prayed, and then ate breakfast together. In the afternoon we walked 45 min to help a family friend clean up the new home she’s building. We swept, scooped, and dumped mud and dirt off the roof until we were told it was time to go home. It is so beautiful here.
Wednesday morning we went to another bible study and in the afternoon we went on the hike of a lifetime. We left the house around 1:30pm armed with multiple bottles of water and 700 flyers about Jesus written in Nepalese. We took a left, walked over the hill, and just kept going. We walked for four hours; pausing to pass out flyers, make conversation, and pray for the sick and anyone else who would let us.

We walked in one store and interrupted a card game involving 5 young men. One man named Arjun had a cast on his arm and agreed to let us pray for healing even though he doesn’t believe. We surrounded Arjun and prayed…nothing…so we prayed again…still nothing…we prayed a third time and he looked at us with a mix of fear and fascination in his eyes. “My arm feels the same” he said, “but I felt an uncontrollable shutter in my chest while you were praying over me”. We explained that what he felt was the Holy Spirit moving inside him, and even if he doesn’t believe in Jesus, God is still pursuing him and loving him.

We ended our journey at Uncle Meg’s friends’ apartment. We ate curry chicken and potatoes and rested up before walking the remaining hour home.  It has been an eventful first week.
