We began Friday afternoon folding booklets and writing the church contact numbers on the back. Once we finished we hit the village roads to pass them out…Naturally, it began raining the moment we stepped out of the house. We put on our ponchos and rain jackets and walked on; by now we’re used to having muddy feet/ legs/ shoes/ clothes. We blanketed the main street, turned right, and spread out to cover the allies and side streets. The rain kept coming down and we kept walking. Then uncle Meg ushered us through an ally and into the ground floor of a home. We were never told we were doing a home visit (another circumstance we’ve adapted to in six months on the Race), but soon we were being pushed up the stairs into a dark, cramped room with about 10 Nepalese people ready and waiting. We all took a seat and waited for the explanation of our visit.
Uncle Meg began speaking with the family members and asking many questions to the grandparents. He then translated that the couple had various physical ailments that we were here to heal….alrighty then. The elderly woman explained that she has not been able to walk at all without someone supporting her for years due to an ear problem, issues with her equilibrium, and problems in her legs. Also, her left hand has been numb. So, we started praying.

After a few minutes of fervent prayer we asked her to try to stand. In confidence she pulled herself up against the wall and took a tentative step forward…and then another…and then another. At this point she began to stumble, so we stood to steady her and resumed our prayers. She gathered herself and stepped again. This process continued for an hour. It was amazing to see the Holy Spirit move! At the conclusion of our prayers her hand was completely healed and she had walked back and forth across the room 3 times, stopping once to even jump up and down! Her equilibrium still caused her to falter every 5 steps or so, but we encouraged the family to continue praying over her every night and see how God will display his love and mercy over her physical body.
Now it was her husband’s turn. He has been suffering numbness in his left arm, throat pain, and a tooth ache. We prayed over him for around 5 minutes and already his arm was healed and the pain in his throat had diminished…not good enough…so we prayed again. When we were finished with him his throat was completely healed as well and the pain in his tooth had diminished as well. What a loving, merciful, powerful God we serve!
Afterward we all prayed together and again encouraged the family to be faithful in praying every night for the grandparents. We ate some biscuits, drank some coffee, and said our goodbyes.
This was just another day of ministry. We didn’t say any magical prayers, use a special formula of scripture and devotion, or have anyone particularly ‘holy’ with us; we just asked God to show up and believed in faith that he would. The God we serve is alive and active and itching to use us to accomplish his will on the earth. He doesn’t need us, but chooses to use us to perform his miracles and spread the truth and hope of his Word to a desperate world. What’s the key? FAITH. Faith to step out in boldness and pray. Faith to believe he is bigger and more powerful than our minds can grasp and faith to ask him to show it. Believe and be amazed.
