Long days, multiple encounters, caring for physical needs, and reassuring safety.

This is just a little glimpse into my job. I work as a CNA at an assisted living home for memory care. Caring for the residents there is tiring, my hands are cracked from washing them so many times, my body hurts from transfers, and the flu is going around the building so many of them are feeling pretty miserable. It’s hard to keep a smile on when you’re exhausted and not feeling great yourself. It’s even harder when a resident needs help but gets frustrated they can’t do it themselves.

However, there’s always those times throughout the day when a resident gives you a sincere thank you, a smile, or a big hug. These are the times that make it all worth it. I’ve only been working there for a short time but the residents already feel like family. It’s so cool to feel like I have 34 more grandparents that I get to see so many times a week.

After doing my devotions the other night, I started to think about how God is constantly taking care of me. He reassures me that He’ll keep me safe when the situation feels dangerous and I’m terrified. For example, fundraising kind of scares me…a lot haha. Sometimes I get so frustrated that I can't just do it myself. I still have to raise a ton of money but I know God will provide. I just have to work on trusting in Him more. Funny how that’s so much easier said than done.

God doesn’t only take care of my physical needs but calls me family. He also takes care of me spiritually. By stretching me in my faith and giving me constant encouragement through the Holy Spirit, my relationship with Him is growing deeper each day. No matter how many times I push Him away with my selfish actions He’s always there, waiting for me to run into His arms and surrender.

It’s funny how God uses ordinary experiences to show how great He is and how much He cares. That’s just one of the things I love about having a relationship with Him.

Oh, and if you all could just keep a resident, let’s call her Jane, in prayer that would be great. I think there’s some spiritual warfare going on in her life right now and I would really appreciate it if you would just pray for her. It’s hard to say what’s exactly going on because she gets really confused throughout the day. I just have a feeling that there’s something more than that, so please pray. Thanks!
