Finish watching High School Musical
(don't judge).
Aubree goes over to pluck Ally's eyebrows.
Soon after that, Sam walks in and says,
"I can't sleep. They're doing an exorcism outside my window."
Welcome to Africa.
The spiritual realm is so evident here.
It's a part of everyday life.
Casting out demons is normal.
I've seen demon possessions in movies.
But I'd never been faced with it directly until coming to Africa.
I looked out the window to see the commotion.
sure enough, three of them were praying,
meanwhile the man was manifesting and screaming.
"Is this seriously happening?"
that's all i kept thinking.
In America, the darkness isn't made manifest nearly as much
as it is here,
It doesn't have to come out,
because there isn't much light fighting against it.
And what is more,
people just don't believe that demons are real.
So Satan gets away with destroying people's lives
and no one rebukes him.
I've only been here a week,
and this is my second experience with a demon possession.
There was a woman manifesting at church
who is apparently haunted by the spirit of her dead husband.
I was surprised at how cavalier I was.
I just sang and danced with the kids not 5 ft. from the woman.
If I'm being honest, I have my fears.
I don't think it's any coincidence that the Lord
is opening my eyes to these things.
As a team, we've been asking for more of the Spirit
and that we would be able to step out more in the gifts.
I firmly believe the Lord is opening our eyes
and giving us opportunities to walk out in the authority he has granted us.
Shelley and I talked to our contacts about it all afterwards.
I can't even begin to recount all the crazy things they shared
about generational curses and witchcraft and demonic forces.
Even a year ago,
I would've run away from such people
and recommended they be admitted to the loony bin.
But now, having experienced many different cultues
and now having seen demons manifest,
I believe every word they're saying.
shelley and I joked that if someone were to manifest on our front porch in America,
and we were casting out the demon,
someone would most likely call the polica and we'd BOTH be taken in.
This might sound terrifying to some of you.
Some of you may think I'm nuts.
that's ok.
I'm learning a lot through all of this.
Mostly that i don't know anything and need Jesus for freakin' everything.
But so that I don't end on a bad note,
the greatest thing about all of this is that Jesus wins every time.
He can cast out 1,000,000 demons simpy by existing.
We have nothing to fear but God himself.
