Well the World Race is here. It’s finally here!

I am on the field serving along side 18 of my squad mates in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala. It is a port town about 5 hours from Guatemala City. We are working with Shofar Ministries, which has been incredible. They are definitely spoiling us here. All 19 of us are staying in a 3-bedroom house and we have toilets, showers and our meals are prepared for us 3 times a day. It’s funny that my definition of “spoiled” has suddenly changed. Yes, toilets and showers are absolutely a luxury here on the world race.

Paul and Hilda, our ministry contacts are true blessings from the Lord. They have their hands in so many different ministries throughout this city. It has been great to learn so much from them already. This is a great place to begin this eleven-month journey. We have already been a part of so many different types of ministry, doing things like cleaning the special needs school, feeding families living at the city dump, visiting at the children’s hospital, playing bingo at a local nursing home, and door-to-door ministry.

Door-to-door ministry… I thought this would be one thing I would really dislike about the race. Boy, was I wrong. That has definitely been my favorite thing we’ve done so far. The people of Guatemala are extremely hospitable. Each person invited us into their homes and told us their specific prayer needs. I absolutely loved it. As we laid our hands on them and prayed to God for their needs, I could really feel the Holy Spirit working through our teams to bless these people. They are broken; they need clarity and provision from God. It is very emotional to see things they are going through, but I know there is hope. I can truly feel God’s presence in this place.

It has been so nice to get unplugged from everything to focus on serving Christ and this community. It is a dark place, very impoverished, a lot of corruption and many broken people. Being here has been incredibly eye opening to how the rest of the world lives. I know I am supposed to be here, though. The tasks we do may seem small at the time, but as long as it is in God’s will, I will continue to dig in and do the work He has called me to do. It’s hard to believe that this is how my life will look for the next year. I know we will go through many trials and things may become overwhelming so please continue to pray. I want to say thank you in advance for your prayers and another big thank you to my supporters. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for you. I will be checking in soon so stay tuned!
