Do you ever set plans for something and get really excited about them? It could be a big day coming up or a vacation right around the corner. Has God ever totally wrecked your plan and led you to do something else?

-Yep, me too.

Month 10, for example. Our squad was set to head to South Africa for ministry this month. We were all pumped. We’d been in Asia for 5 months and were ready for a change of scenery and most of us have wanted to serve in Africa our entire lives.

Then came the team placements to find out where we would all be serving throughout various cities in the country. Places like Cape Town, Durban, the Eastern Cape… Our team however received a different assignment.

“Adventures in Missions is sending us to BOTSWANA!” I think we were all in a bit of shock, as most of us hadn’t even heard of Botswana before. We weren’t even sure exactly where it was, let alone anything about the place. Turns out, it is a neighboring country to South Africa and it is pretty darn incredible.

What is neat about our ministry this month is we have the chance to travel around the entire country to find Christian ministries that AIM can partner with. The ultimate goal is to build the Kingdom and make disciples in all nations. So that’s what we are here for. We call it Unsung Heroes. Our team had this opportunity in Myanmar in June and we were blown away by all the doors God opened, so you can imagine we are excited to see what He has for us here in Botswana.

We’ve been here just two days and have already met several contacts. In fact, we met an American missionary on our layover that lives here. She invited us to a prayer walk our first day in the country. We exchanged information and made plans to partner with her ministry that day and never expected to see what we did.

We were surprised to arrive and see hundreds of local people as well as missionaries joining in on this walk. We walked several miles around Gaborone and prayed over this nation. We prayed for healthcare, for peace, for education, and much more. It was incredible to see the amount of people there proclaiming the gospel in this city. We walked away with lots of new contacts in just our first day. That meeting at the airport on our layover was totally God at work.

Talk about divine appointments. That’s one thing I love about doing Unsung Heroes. God shows up in the most unexpected ways. You can always count on him and you see that so much in a month like this.

As of right now, our plan is to stay here in the capital city of Gaborone for the first several days then move around the country to other big cities. I am thrilled to see what things will happen this month, big and small. Please pray that we listen to the Spirit when he leads us and for us to follow. Pray for our safety, our health and our energy as we travel. Thank you to everyone for your continual support.
