As the race is coming to a close (only 64 days left!) I’ve been thinking a lot about the last 8 months and how badly I want to share every crazy moment with all of you! I wish you guys could all be there, to experience the mundane and the insane, the average and the extraordinary. So I decided to start a little tribute.
I was with team Boundless for 4 months. So here are 4 memories, one from each country. They aren’t exactly the most important memory, or the most intense or anything. Just something I remember. Something I treasure, and I want you all to treasure it too.
1. Nepal. Oh Nepal. The place you have in my heart is like none other. I loved your scorching heat and spicy food and misty mountains. But a favorite memory is driving to Sarlahi from Kathmandu. Those hills felt like they would never end. We moved through mist and sunlit valleys and rocky crevices and straight arrow highways until we reached the bumpiest “road” in the middle of nowhere. And we stepped out of the van to the hottest air I’ve ever felt in my entire life. I still remember that day like none other.
2. India. One of my favorite India memories was icecream with Shakerbabu. Or anything with Shakerbabu. All the talks at sunset. All the bumpy auto rides. All the strange bus stops where he just hopped off, waved, and disappeared into the night. That was an amazing month.
3. Thailand. Cricket night. Nothing compares to cricket night. Spending 15 minutes trying to get everyone to eat a cricket will forever live on in my memories. Every dinner in Thailand was interesting, from our River Kwai fine dining to our outdoor karaoke weird-chicken experience. Lots of sweet chili sauce. Lots of swapping out vegetables. Lots of mosquitoes. Lots of great conversation. But cricket night tops them all.
4. Cambodia. My favorite Cambodia memory with boundless was definitely learning how to ride a bike. It was probably only our second day at the base, and y’all took one of the bikes, set me up, and ran beside me the whole time. Danica, Mandy, John. Everyone came out to help, and it meant a lot to me. Thanks for teaching me something I’ve probably forgotten how to do already, but I really had a great time biking that month. Thanks.
So there you have it. Just a taste of team Boundless. You guys made those first few months quite the wild ride.
