We’re going on a treasure hunt, and the Holy Spirit is our map.
Earlier this week my team joined a group of KingdomCity Church young adults for their weekly street evangelism. I was placed on a team with 4 new Malaysian friends, all of us in our early 20s. Before beginning our evening we stopped and asked the Lord for some Words of Knowledge. We received the following:
Back pain
“Grey”
“Grey” confirmed with the clarification of “grey” meaning “grey area” or “confusion”
Left arm in need of healing
A thin man laying on the street
By the end of the night, each of these Words were fulfilled!
Here’s the story:
We began to walk through some streets nearby Little India. As we passed by a Hindu Temple, one of my friends felt called to approach a man standing on the steps. We smiled and waved at the man, waiting outside the gate to the temple grounds. He approached, welcoming us to step onto the grounds, and my friend proceeded to explain to the man how we were on a treasure hunt, looking for people with sickness or pain in their body. The man responded that he had pain in his back (ding! ding! ding!). My friend asked if he could pray for him, and the man accepted the invitation. As my friend laid his hand on the man’s back, we all began to speak healing over him in Jesus’ name. An Indian woman and a much younger man from inside the temple were intrigued and came down the temple steps to observe. The woman began to snicker as she heard us say: “in Jesus’ name.” Despite how humorous she found the situation, she spoke to best English of the three and voluntarily translated for us as we continued to talk to the men!
After we finished praying for the man’s back, we began speaking to the younger man. He shared that he was currently in the process of deciding whether or not to pursue the path of becoming a Hindu priest and was experiencing a lot of confusion. DING! We prayed for Jesus to reveal himself to him and to make things very black and white, eliminating any grey area and showing this young man the TRUTH. How cool that we were able to step into this young man’s life and point him towards Jesus in that very moment. We believe he will be a warrior for the Kingdom of Heaven. Walking away, I got chills all over my body as I realized just how neat and God-appointed those interactions were.
We turned a corner and walked down a street with lots of little restaurants and convenient stores. As we passed by one store with several men lounging around tables and chairs, the Holy Spirit immediately told three of us that we needed to turn around. The first man we approached declined our invitation for prayer, but my heart skipped a beat when the man next to him grabbed his left arm.
Earlier that night during worship, God told me that someone’s arm would need healing tonight. I don’t know how to explain the sensation, but I could physically feel something changing in my left arm, flowing from my elbow down along the outside of my hand. The sensations continued to surge down my arm as I began to ask the Lord if this was actually Him communicating to me. The answer was yes. I left worship that night confident that someone’s left arm would be healed.
So, holding his hand, we (myself and a man from our group did this together for appropriateness) began to pray over this man’s left arm. After we finished, we asked him if it felt any better. He attempted to flip his hand over and further explained that he couldn’t move his wrist around because of the pain. His palm was stuck facing the floor. So we prayed again. He could twist it a little more. He eagerly agreed as we prayed again. His toothless smile began to grow as his movement increased more. He truly believed he would be healed. He became more specific, pointing to exactly where the pain remained. We prayed again. And then the man was able to turn his hand completely around, wrist mobile and PAIN FREE! Jesus healed this man. Praise the Lord! He was so excited, specifically about how he would probably be able to sleep through the night for the first time because the pain was gone.
Afterwards, we invited him to a nearby church and he proceeded to explain to us that his left arm was injured because a local Pastor had pushed him down to the ground in anger. God used us that night to redeem this man’s perspective of Christians and to help heal this man’s left arm in Jesus’ name! He accepted Christ and plans to visit church this upcoming Sunday!
On our way back to church we encountered a man laying on the street corner who was so thin his bones were showing through his skin. We’d kept our eyes open all night but didn’t run across any homeless people sleeping on the streets until this man. We approached him, but he wasn’t able to communicate so we prayed a blessing over him and continued on with our night.
I love that. I love that sometimes we’re blessed to play a role in miraculous healings, and sometimes we just whisper simple blessings over people as we pass by. Spreading the love of Jesus Christ doesn’t require social media story worthy interactions each time we go out. That’s one of the main things I’m learning this month. We can live our normal day-to-day lives, simply walking out the door with a mindfulness to remain available to the Holy Spirit in any moment. God WILL move through you, whether that’s in healing the blind man begging for money on the street corner or smiling and speaking with kindness to the lady in the head covering behind the grocery store counter. Little or big, it’s all shining God’s light and love into this world.
We bring the light wherever we go because we carry the Holy Spirit inside of us. So next time you step out the door to run errands or sit down at your desk at work, fight to remain available for the Holy Spirit’s use. He can speak to us every moment of every day, not just when we read God’s Word. You can change someone’s life today with a simple smile. There’s something different inside of you and people will notice. His name is Jesus.
“…grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” – Acts 4:29-30
Fundraising update —
I’m SO close to being fully funded! In fact, once a couple pledges come through in my AIM (Adventures in Missions) Account, I WILL BE! (But I’m not quite ready to make the official announcement yet.)
That being said, I still have financial needs that could be covered! Before the Race I spent thousands of dollars out of pocket for vaccinations and gear (pack, tent, etc.), and I also have additional expenses each month of the Race that aren’t included in my official fundraising goal. If you still desire to support me financially, please consider donating your contribution directly TO ME instead of through my AIM account. (Once I’m fully funded through my AIM account, the excess funds will roll over into a general AIM account.)
Thanks so much! I can’t believe God has provided this much already, and I look forward to seeing how he will continue to provide for me!
