The Lord spoke to me through a Backstreet Boys’ song.
Shortly before I applied for The World Race I was wrestling with immense fear and anxiety. Bottom line: I wasn’t trusting the Lord. At all. I had declared over my life that the Lord had complete and total control but I wasn’t trusting Him with it. What’s the point in giving Him control if you’re still going to carry the burden of the outcome? I was wasting so much time and energy fighting for understanding that wasn’t mine to have.
As soon as I came to that realization, I repented of my doubt and fear. And shortly after, the Lord spoke to me through a Backstreet Boys’ song.
“Am I original?”
“Yeah!”
“Am I the only one?”
“Yeah!”
“Am I everything you need?”
“Now throw your hands up in the air
Wave them around like you just don’t care”
God was asking me if I believe that He is who He says He is. Because He is those things. He’s original. He’s the only one. He’s everything I need. [you better rock your body now!]
And He was telling me to LIGHTEN UP. Relax, Corrie. Throw you hands up in the air and just don’t care, Corrie! Because HE’S GOT THIS.
So I did. I took a step towards the dream that I believe the Lord placed in my heart. I applied for the World Race (an 11 month missions trip to 11 countries), and God has been affirming my decision every step of the way since then. Rather than dwelling on fear and uncertainty, I’ve committed to walk through the door that I believe the Lord has placed before me. And He can shut that door when/if He so chooses. But until then, I’ll keep walking.
But now is when it gets hard. Now it gets uncomfortable.
The next step through that door is fundraising. (Oosh. That word just makes me squirm.)
It’s time to ask for help. Something I’m not too good at. Typically I try to tackle it all myself. But the Lord knows that it’s good for me to be stretched in that area. It’s okay to ask for help. Especially within a community of believers. After all, that’s what the Body of Christ is for, right? Edifying, uplifting and encouraging one another?
So now I must ask for your help. Will your prayerfully consider partnering with me on this adventure? I must raise almost $17,000 for this missions trip. I know. Wow. It’s a lot. But “if it’s God’s will, it’s God’s bill!” (shoutout to Kathy!) I have ONE MONTH to reach my first financial deadline of $3,500.
