This month my team and I are working with Outpour Movement in Mae Sot, Thailand. I am absolutely loving it here. Outpour is a diverse organization that is focused on building relationships with the people in the community.

One day last week, my team got to go to Mae Sot Clinic, which is a clinic for Burmese people who can’t legally go to the general hospital here or can’t afford to go. We took cards we made saying things like you’re beautiful, you’re loved, and God loves you. As we were passing them out I felt drawn to a family sitting under a pavilion. Lyndsay noticed I wanted to go talk to them so she offered to go with me. We were greeted with huge smiles and kindness. They made room for us to sit with them. A couple other members of the Outpour team joined us along with a translator. As soon as we sat down a women began pointing to her leg. We didn’t need a translator to know she wanted us to pray for her, but it helped to get the story. She had a hip replacement go wrong and has been in pain for 2 years. They have been trying to get the papers for her to have the correct surgery. They have the money, but the papers hadn’t gone through yet. I was immediately filled with compassion for her and her family. She has been living under that pavilion for 2 years and her family comes from Burma every 2 weeks to be with her. We began to pray for this women’s hip and for the paperwork to come through.

The women’s daughter was sitting next to me and for some reason handed me a gift. It was a ring that she was wearing, and I noticed her mother had an identical one on. I didn’t want to take it. I politely said no thank you, but she offered again, so I asked the others if I should and they said yes. She was so excited about me taking it. We exchanged a smile that turned into laughter. We sat with them for a while longer and the women said her pain had gotten a little better so we began to pray for her some more. I wish I could say I saw her hip fully healed that day, but I can’t.

When it was time for us to go, the women’s daughter hugged me like I was her family and then kissed me on the forehead. I know in my heart I was supposed to meet her that day. I have no idea what seeds God planted or what His plan was for this meeting, but I am so thankful I got to be a part of it.

They told us they were planning on going back to their country permanently the next day after we met them, since the papers had yet to come through. If we had went the next day we never would have met them. God’s perfect timing continually amazes me. I don’t know for sure if God worked it out to where she got to have the surgery, but I trust that this meeting wasn’t wasted. After feeling as if I missed a lot of opportunities in Nepal, I am beyond grateful for God’s grace and faithfulness in providing opportunities here in Thailand and for giving me the courage to act on them.

My final financial deadline is approaching at the end of June. I am still about $3000 away from being fully funded.
