Back in Nicaragua, my phone started having trouble charging. I’d try plugging it into different outlets and different charging cables, and it would normally start working eventually. One night, it wouldn’t charge at all so I prayed that God fix the phone or send me a replacement when necessary and turned over to fall asleep. The next morning, the charger worked and I was able to charge my phone without any issues. Nothing too crazy I know but thank God the phone didnt cause me any more issues for the rest of the month.

In Costa Rica, the phone started causing me issues again. I figured out that I had to lay the phone on its head and at an angle so the cord would be consistently pushed against the wall and into the charging port of the phone. This was held together by a series of rubber bands I connected at various points to apply the pressure of the cord to the one location my phone needed to charge (definitely adding engineer to the resume after this one!). This process was annoying and took some time especially considering my phone needed to be charged roughly twice a day to stay alive even though I can only use it for pictures and time (yeah I need a new battery…).

Well it turns out that God temporarily answered my first prayer but intended to bless me with the latter prayer I had in Nicaragua. My squad leader’s fiancée, Jason, has joined us for ministry this month in Costa Rica (and hopefully the next 3 as well). Seeing the struggle I had with charging my phone, he told me that God put it on his heart (spoke to him) to bring the backup work phone he had not used in a couple years. Obediently he brought the phone having no idea what he would do with it. When I explained the situation I was in, he offered me the phone as a gift. Free of charge. And to top it all off, it was the exact same model as my previous phone! God sent me a replacement just as I had asked for almost a month prior.

“For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord.”  (Proverbs 8:35.) “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7).

For those that know Jesus, you will be seen as favorable to God. This is a deep relationship. Know Him like you do your bestfriend. Know Him like you do your husband or wife or mother or father. Know Him even more deeply than any of them. That is the connection being mentioned. Note that there is no promise that you will receive what you ask for. It doesn’t say, “Ask for healing and it will be given” or, “Ask for a new phone and one will appear.” Rather it says, “the peace of God…will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” He can and will give you peace. I know that for all those days after I prayed for a fix or replacement I was never worried about my phone working. There were days where I didn’t get it to fully charge or it would die early, but I was at peace because I know that He is at work. And, He is never unfaithful. I know that a phone cannot be comparable to a terminal illness as far as emotional health goes, but remember that this is the God that created everything you have ever seen and not seen. He can do enormous things. Trust in Him. Know Him better. Be with Him. Live for Him. And, watch what happens !
